Piccareta: "That's it"

19 February 2013

Speaking after Town's 3-1 win at Tranmere, Caretaker Manager Fabrizio Piccareta confirmed that on Wednesday morning, he, along with the remaining technical staff, will resign from their posts at Swindon Town Football Club.

He had this to say:

After this game that everyone has witnessed I want to tell you that this is our last game as the technical staff of Swindon Town Football Club. We know what Paolo did yesterday and I want to highlight one thing: this achievement that this fantastic team got tonight to get to the top of the league with this victory - the people must know that until yesterday until 5pm we were together preparing for this game as usual, preparing this game in the best professional way. I want to stress this point.

He (Paolo Di Canio) looked after the team and players until yesterday so what the players and team did tonight is the product of Paolo Di Canio. His work and his staff and this must be clear so now we leave the team top of the league in League One but it’s the outcome of the fantastic job that Paolo Di Canio and the team and ourselves as technical staff have done in the last two years.

I just spoke to Paolo and he congratulated us and the players because he is absolutely happy with what his team has achieved and from tomorrow, I don’t know what’s going on but this was a very important moment to say thanks to the Swindon Town fans who are amazing. To our players that have been highly professional; they gave everything to the cause and of course to the staff but this is the achievement of Paolo Di Canio, his staff and the players.

Tomorrow morning I can say that as a team, we will resign because we are here for Paolo Di Canio and we will follow him everywhere even if he coaches at Real Madrid or Luton Town because we are a team and we have shown these past two years that if you have a strong team and all the people involved are a strong team you can make a fantastic achievement.

No one expected STFC at the top of the league. I want to personally say thank you to the fans and the players. Good luck to the future to this club that gave us a lot but I think we gave a lot to the club as well.
