Town Players And Local Media Combine To Promote 'Kid For A Quid'

17 February 2017

Swindon Town joined forces with the local media and Swindon Town Football In The Community on Thursday to promote our ‘Kid For A Quid’ promotion this weekend.

The Reds take on Oldham Athletic at The County Ground on Saturday (3pm Kick-Off) and kids under the age of 18 will be able to watch their heroes for just £1!

Town players Jesse Starkey and Dion Conroy were both present at Football In The Community’s Half-Term Course Presentation event yesterday, dishing out trophies to competition winners as well as posing for photos and signing autographs.

While they were there, both players also spoke to the local press - the Swindon Advertiser, BBC Wiltshire and Sam FM – to highlight the importance of the club encouraging the fans of the future through the turnstiles.

Speaking about our ‘Kid For A Quid’ promotion, Jesse Starkey said: “I was doing similar things in Brighton when I was their age and I was doing football camps like these myself.

“I was at events like this growing up, where they would bring pros down and introduce them to the players and we would look up to them – it inspires you to do your own thing.

“Some of those children will end up playing for academies or playing for local teams around here and it is important for the club to support them in that.

“You want the local community supporting you because they are the people who really care about the club.

“The club are promoting getting the kids down here and bringing as many people as we can to what will be an important game.

“When people are cheering you on and wanting you to do well, it gives everyone a lift and all the players will see that.

“It always helps when you have got a lot of fans behind you and if we can get as many people as we can down here on Saturday supporting the team, then it’s only going to help.”

Tomorrow is a huge game for the football club and the players would really appreciate all the support they can get as we go in search of a crucial three points.

All kids under the age of 18 will be able to attend our fixture against Oldham Athletic for just £1, although children wishing to go in the Town End will need to be accompanied by an adult.
